Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Cap & Crown in Annapolis: What to Know First

We install, replace, and repair Famco chimney caps and crowns throughout Annapolis, typically completing most jobs in a single visit. A standard Famco cap replacement in Annapolis runs $285 to $540 installed, while crown repair or coating work starts around $350 and goes up from there depending on damage. We’re an independent Famco service provider, not a manufacturer affiliate, which means we quote the repair honestly and never push a brand-specific upsell you don’t need.

This page is for Annapolis homeowners who already have a Famco cap or crown, or who’ve been told they need one and want to know what that actually means in this market. If you’re looking at a rusted cap, a cracked crown, or water staining around the flue, call (443) 274-4231 and we’ll get you a written price before any work starts.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Famco makes solid galvanized, stainless, and copper caps, but we see the same failure patterns across Annapolis roofs season after season. Here’s what we find, model line by model line, and what we do about it.

  • Famco GVL Series (galvanized) - rust-through at the lid seams. The GVL line is Famco’s economy galvanized cap. In Annapolis, salt air off the Bay accelerates rust at the folded lid seams, right where water pools after rain. We replace with a stainless Famco or a Copperfield equivalent, or if the owner wants to stay on budget, we’ll coat the seams and buy a few more seasons where the metal is still sound. Either way, you’ll see photos of the rust before you decide.
  • Famco SCC Series (stainless) - mesh clogging from salt and pollen buildup. The SCC stainless caps hold up well against rust, but the fine mesh screens collect a sticky layer of salt dust and pine pollen in spring. That restricts draft and can push smoke back into the house on humid days. We pull the cap, clean the mesh, and sometimes step up to a wider mesh if the Annapolis homeowner burns frequently enough to justify it.
  • Famco copper caps - electrolysis at the mounting screws. Copper caps look sharp on older Annapolis homes, but the steel mounting screws Famco ships with them eventually set up a galvanic reaction with the copper. The screws corrode first, and the cap loosens. We swap in stainless hardware and add a buffer washer, which stops the reaction before it loosens the cap and lets wind get under it.
  • Crown cracking on masonry chimneys under Famco caps. The cap doesn’t cause the crack, but a cracked crown underneath a Famco cap lets water run down between the flue tile and the brick. Owners notice white efflorescence on the brick near the top and assume the cap failed. We camera-inspect the flue and crown every time, because replacing a cap over a failed crown is wasted money. Crown repair with a proper slope and a flexible crown coat is the fix, and we’ll show you the before and after.
  • Multi-flue Famco caps - wind-driven rain getting under the lid. Annapolis gets strong northeast winds off the Severn and the Bay. On multi-flue Famco caps with a single shared lid, those winds drive rain sideways under the lid and down one flue, usually the one on the windward side. The symptom is water in the fireplace or ash pit after storms that weren’t even that heavy. We correct it with a larger lid overhang, or we custom-build a cap with deeper side skirts so the rain has to work a lot harder to get in.

Our Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Every Famco job we do in Annapolis follows the same sequence, and you get documentation at each step. Here’s how it works.

  1. 1
We book the visit and name your tech. Calls are answered by a live person, day or night. You’ll know who’s coming before they arrive, and you’ll get a text when the truck is on the way, per Clause 2 of the Haven Standard.
  2. 2
Camera-scan inspection of the cap, crown, and flue. We run the camera down the flue, photograph the cap and crown from the roof, and document what we find. The photo record is yours to keep, not an upsell.
  3. 3
Written price and scope before any work starts. We tell you exactly what’s wrong, what we recommend, and what it costs, in writing. If it’s a simple cap swap, the price is flat. If the crown needs work, the scope is itemized. You sign off only when you’re clear on both.
  4. 4
Parts decision: OEM Famco or quality aftermarket. If we’re replacing a Famco cap, we use Famco parts when they’re the right call for the job and available locally. When a Copperfield or Olympia cap fits better or costs less without giving up quality, we say so and show you why. You get the choice with prices attached.
  5. 5
Installation, test, and photo record. We fit the cap or repair the crown, then test for draft and water tightness where it applies. Photos are taken throughout, and you leave with a written warranty and the full photo set, under Clause 4 of the Haven Standard.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t right, we come back and make it right. That’s stamped on every Famco cap and crown job we do, no fine print.

What Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Annapolis

We publish our pricing ranges here because a written price before work starts is the whole point of how we operate. Here’s what Annapolis homeowners typically pay for Famco work with us:

  • Famco cap replacement (standard single-flue, stainless): $285 to $540 installed, depending on size and roof access.
  • Famco multi-flue cap replacement: $610 to $1,100 installed, depending on flue count and custom lid requirements.
  • Crown repair or resurfacing (small cracks, minor spalling): $350 to $650.
  • Full crown rebuild with proper overhang and slope: $850 to $1,600, depending on chimney footprint.
  • Crown coating (flexible, water-resistant crown coat): $275 to $475 as part of a crown repair visit.

What moves the price is roof pitch, chimney height, and whether we’re working on a masonry crown or a metal chase. We don’t charge an inspection fee when you hire us for the repair, and every estimate is free. Call (443) 274-4231 and we’ll give you a number you can hold us to.

Why Annapolis Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Annapolis for Famco Work

Why Annapolis Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Annapolis for Famco Work

We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and every one of them got a written price before work started and a documented photo record when it was done. That’s not a slogan; it’s Clause 1 and Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, and we’ve been running this way since before most Annapolis homeowners had a camera in their pocket.

Our techs know Famco caps specifically: how they age in salt air, which models hold up on Eastport rooflines, and when a cheaper aftermarket cap actually does the job better than a brand-name replacement. We also work with DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco systems, so if a Famco cap failure has caused deeper damage in the flue or chase, we can fix that in the same visit without handing you off to another company.

The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we. We show you what we found, tell you what it costs, and let the photos do the convincing.
