OEM versus aftermarket: Olympia doesn’t sell a proprietary “crown mix” for masonry applications. The industry standard is a Portland-based crown mix with a polymer additive for flexibility. We source ours through Haven’s buying network alongside DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco products, which keeps the material cost honest. Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing

• Hairline cracks in the crown surface. These let water into the concrete. Each winter, that water freezes and expands, widening the crack. What starts as a cosmetic line becomes a spalling problem (chunks flaking off) within two to three Annapolis winters.
• White efflorescence on the brick below the crown. That’s mineral salt left behind when water evaporates out of the masonry. If you see white staining on the top few courses of brick, water is moving through the crown or the joint where crown meets brick.
